KATHMANDU: Nearly 5,000 units of motor vehicles were imported into the country through Rasuwagadhi customs along the Nepal-China border over the first nine months of the current fiscal year.
According to the Rasuwa Customs Office, 4,706 motor vehicles entered the country from China through the customs point during the review period.
Electric vehicles account for more than 90% of motor vehicle imports through the customs point. According to the customs office, 4,679 units of electric vehicles were imported through the customs point in the nine-month period.
Popular Chinese EV brands like BYD, MG, Neta, Deepal and Omoda, among others, are imported into the country through Rasuwagadhi customs.
Meanwhile, the customs office mobilized Rs 15.77 billion as customs duty during the first nine months of 2023/24 – a growth of 166% compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Total imports through the customs point increased by 89% to Rs 48.59 billion in the first nine months of 2023/24.
