Nearly 3,500 file nominations for House of Representatives elections

KATHMANDU: Nearly 3,500 candidates filed nominations for 165 first-past-the-post seats in the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

The remaining 110 in the 275-member parliament are elected through the proportional representation system.

According to a preliminary list prepared by the Election Commission, a total of 3,484 candidates have filed nominations across the country. Of them, 395 are women, 3,088 are men, and one is listed under the “others” category.

From political parties, 2,297 candidates have registered their nominations, including 235 women and 2,062 men. Likewise, 1,187 candidates have filed as independents.

By age group, 583 candidates are between 25 and 35 years old, 1,610 are between 36 and 50, 1,090 are between 51 and 65, and 201 are above 65. In total, 68 political parties have nominated candidates nationwide.
