Nearly 3,000 file nominations for 165 seats

KATHMANDU: A total of 2,925 candidates have filed their nominations for the first-past-the-post seats in all 165 constituencies across the country for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

According to the Election Commission (EC), 336 women and 2,589 men have registered their candidacies. The EC has said that the number could increase slightly as verification processes are still underway in some constituencies.

Mustang recorded the lowest number of nominations, with only four candidates filing their papers. In contrast, Rupandehi Constituencies No. 2 and 3 saw the highest number of nominations, with 35 candidates each.

The EC has said that complaints can be filed against candidates between 10 am and 3 pm on Wednesday. The EC  will review the complaints from 3 pm on Wednesday to 5 pm on Thursday and make necessary decisions. It will then publish a preliminary list of candidates between 5 pm and 7 pm on Thursday.

Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations from 10 am to 1 pm on Friday. The final list of candidates will be published between 1 pm and 3 pm on Friday, and election symbols will be distributed to candidates later the same day between 4 pm and 7 pm, according to the EC
