KATHMANDU: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Tiplyang Kaligandaki Hydropower Project to be built on the Kali Gandaki River in Myagdi district.

The Tiplyang Kaligandaki Hydropower Project, with a capacity of 58 MW, is promoted by the IME Group.

NEA Managing Director Kul Man Ghising and Tiplyang Kaligandaki Hydropower Project President Chandra Prasad Dhakal signed the MoU on behalf of their respective companies.

The MoU has been signed for the procurement of 58 MW. Since the company has received permission in principle from the Department of Electricity Development to upgrade its capacity to 86 MW, it will enter into negotiations with the NEA for the purchase of additional electricity generated by it later on.

According to the PPA, NEA will buy power generated by the project at Rs 8.4 per unit during dry months and Rs 4.8 per unit during wet months.

The power generated by the project will be connected to the Dana sub-station of the Kaligandaki Corridor Transmission Line.

The project is expected to commence power generation in 2029.
