KATHMANDU: Nepal has received permission for the export of an additional 180 MW of hydropower to India.
Nepal is already selling 452 megawatts of electricity to India. India’s decision to purchase energy generated by four additional projects will now enable Nepal to export a total of 632 MW to India.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Nepal has been granted permission to export 70 MW generated by the Upper Chamelia and Upper Kalangagad hydropower projects through the Mahendranagar-Gaddachowki transmission line. Additionally, 110 MW generated by the Solukhola and Dordikhola hydropower projects will be transmitted through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line.
NEA will sell electricity transmitted through the Mahendranagar-Gaddachowki transmission line in the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX). The utility sells its electricity in the day-ahead market of the IEX where prices for the next day are determined a day prior through bidding. Meanwhile, electricity exported through the Dhalkebar-Muzaffarpur transmission line will be sold at a rate of Rs 8.4 per unit.
