DHANGADHI: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to build the necessary infrastructure to increase energy consumption in Kailali and Kanchanpur districts of Sudurpashchim Province.

Consumers of Attariya, Tikapur and Dhangadhi of Kailali, and Mahendranagar of Kanchanpur, among others, have been complaining about low voltage and tripping, among other problems.

NEA’s Executive Director Kulman Ghisinng, Deputy Executive Director of Distribution and Consumer Service Directorate Manoj Silwali and Deputy Executive Director of Transmission Directorate Dirghayu Shrestha, among other officials, visited different areas of Sudurpashchim Province on Saturday and Sunday and took stock of the situation.

The team also held discussions with representatives of concerned local units and the local chamber of commerce and industries.

After the discussions, the NEA’s high-level team instructed the chief of the provincial office as well as distribution centers to bring necessary programs for improving power supply specifying the required budget before the summer season.

Ghising said NEA has formed a team to prepare immediate and long-term plans to improve distribution system in the province. “Tripping and voltage problems have been seen because of overutilization of the 33 kV transmission line,” Ghising said, adding: “To do away with the problem, we are preparing to build a 132 kV transmission lines for areas south of Attariya and for Dhangadhi and surrounding areas.”

According to Ghising, Belauri and Punarbas areas of Kanchanpur will also be connected by 132 kV transmission line. “This will address voltage and tripping problems.”
