NC’s Krishna Prasad Yadav set to become new Chief Minister of Madhesh

KATHMANDU: Krishna Prasad Yadav, the Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader in Madhesh Province, is set to become the province’s new Chief Minister.

The seven-party alliance reached an agreement to appoint Yadav as the Chief Minister on Friday, according to Shesh Narayan Yadav, a provincial assembly member from the NC.

Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP) Nepal, a member of the alliance, had also staked its claim for the position, arguing that a Madhesh-based party should lead the province.

“Our parliamentary party leader Krishna Prasad Yadav will submit his claim for Chief Minister to the Province Chief on Friday itself with the support of lawmakers from all seven parties of the alliance,” provincial assembly member Yadav added.

The seven-party alliance reconvened on Friday after efforts to reach a consensus on the chief minsiter candidate failed on Thursday evening.

Province Chief Surendra Labh has given parties until 5 pm on Friday to submit a claim to form a government in the province.
