KATHMANDU: Krishna Man Dangol of Nepali Congress (NC) has been elected as the Mayor of Kirtipur Municipality of Kathmandu.
In the by-elections held on Sunday, Dangol, who secured 5,506 votes, defeated Dr Shiva Sharan Maharjan by nearly 5,00 votes. Maharjan received 5,067 votes. Similarly, Dr Surendra Manandhar of CPN-UML got 4,326 votes.
The position became vacant following the demise of Raj Kumar Nakarmi, who was elected from the Nepali Congress in the local body elections held in 2022, on July 26.
A total of 20 candidates, including 11 independent candidates, had filed their nominations in the by-election.
