NCP expels former Karnali Chief Minister Raj Kumar Sharma from party

SURKHET: The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) has expelled former Chief Minister of Karnali Province Rajkumar Sharma from general membership of the party.

The NCP’s provincial parliamentary party formally informed the Karnali Provincial Assembly Secretariat about the decision on Wednesday.

Sharma had sided with Janardan Sharma, who left the CPN (Maoist Center) after the party decided to merge with several left parties to form NCP. Janardan is one of the founders of the Progressive Democratic Party.

In a letter sent to the provincial assembly, the NCP Karnali Province Parliamentary Party stated that Sharma had deliberately acted against the party’s policies, principles, objectives, and code of conduct. The party concluded that his actions were in violation of both the party statute and the rules of the provincial parliamentary party.

“According to sub-sections (2) and (5) of Section 32 of the Political Parties Act, 2017, a person expelled from party membership automatically ceases to remain a member of the Provincial Assembly. We request the Provincial Assembly Secretariat to take the necessary action as per the legal provisions,” the letter stated.

Earlier on Monday, a meeting of the NCP Central Committee had decided to expel Sharma from all party responsibilities.

Sharma was elected to the province assembly from the Rukum West-1(B) seat.
