KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said that the NC will not take ownership of the government’s decision to appoint Lharkyal Lama as the vice-chairperson of the Lumbini Development Trust.
Talking to reporters on the premises of the House of Representatives on Monday, Sharma said Lharkyal’s appointment as the vice-chairman of the LDT has disseminated a wrong message. “We oppose Lama’s appointment to the post. The NC will not endorse this decision,” Sharma said.
Sharma also criticized the government’s apparent lack of seriousness in appointing a leader to oversee Lumbini, the revered birthplace of Buddha. “Nepal is a destination where people from all corners of the globe come to pay their respects. Many feel blessed to bow on this sacred land,” Sharma said. “The casual approach toward selecting the leadership of such an important place is a grave mistake on the part of the government.”
