KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition partners, Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, have shared the leadership of four health science academies among themselves.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday appointed vice-chancellors at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Sunsari, the Patan Academy of Health Sciences in Lalitpur, the Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences in Kaski and the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences in Jumla. Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences and Patan Academy of Health Sciences were allocated to the UML, while Karnali Academy of Health Sciences and BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences went to the NC.

Bikram Shrestha has been appointed vice-chancellor of BP Koirala Institute, Buddhi Paudel of Patan Academy, Bharat Khatri of Pokhara Academy and Pujan Rokaya of Karnali Academy.

A three-member recommendation committee, comprising Minsiter for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel, Health Secretary Dr Bikas Devkota and and National Planning Commission (NPC) Member Prof Dr R.P Bichha, was formed to propose the appointments of the vice-chancellors. It had recommended three names for each position to the cabinet.
