KATHMANDU: The ruling parties, Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML, have established a mechanism to streamline the operations of the governments across all three tiers.

According to UML’s Publicity Department Chief Rajendra Gautam, the mechanism will facilitate the smooth functioning of the federal, provincial, and local governments.

The mechanism, formed on Monday, includes four members from each party. Gautam stated that it is tasked with assisting in the federal government’s operations, with senior leaders from both parties participating.

Vice-President Purna Bahadur Khadka, General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak represent the NC, while Senior Vice-Chairperson Ishwar Pokharel, Vice-Chairperson and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, and the Prime Minister’s Political Advisor, Bishnu Rimal, represent the UML.

The mechanism is expected to work towards making the government more systematic and effective. According to party leaders, similar six-member mechanisms, with three members from each party, will be established at the provincial level. There is also an agreement to create two-member mechanisms at the district level between the two parties.

UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli is currently leading the federal government, while the two parties have divided leadership of six provincial governments between them.
