NC to continue House obstruction as consensus eludes parties

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to continue the house obstruction.

Although NC has agreed to allow Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal agreed to form a parliamentary inquiry committee, it decided to continue house obstruction after learning that the inquiry panel would be formed to probe cooperatives in a broader manner.

NC has been demanding the formation of an inquiry panel to probe Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in cooperative fraud.

NC lawmaker Ram Hari Khatiwada told Himal Press that the House obstruction will continue until the government agrees to form a parliamentary inquiry panel.

As per the understanding reached on Thursday morning, Lamichhane was to address parliament at 4 pm on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Lamichhane, who is also the President of Rastriya Swatantra Party, took to social media to express his disappointment. “I should be allowed to speak once. That’s all I’m asking for. Why is there such a disgusting media trial?” Lamichhane wrote on his Facebook page.
