KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwo Prakash Sharma has stated that the party should stop making demands for the reinstatement of the House of Representatives and instead head to the polls.
In a video message posted on his social media page on Tuesday, Sharma said since the President has already taken responsibility in a difficult situation and announced the election date, the party should now focus on preparing for the polls. “Some of our leaders are for making demands for reinstatement of the parliament, while others are in favour of going directly to elections. But with the election date already announced, my view is that we should not continue to demand reinstatement,” he said.
Expressing support for the concerns raised by the indigenous nationalities, Sharma said their lack of representation in the new government was a serious matter. “The indigenous nationalities were at the forefront during times of sacrifice, in the fight for change and in efforts to form the government. Their representation must be ensured in the government. We must take this issue seriously,” Sharma added.
