KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has decided not to give a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
A meeting of the parliamentary party of the Nepali Congress took this decision on Monday.
Prime Minister Dahal is undergoing a floor test as per Article 99 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal after the Nepali Congress (NC) withdrew its support from his government.
Last week, Dahal broke the alliance with the Nepali Congress and formed a new alliance with CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP). He has notified the Federal Parliament Secretariat that he intends to seek a vote of confidence on Wednesday.
The NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak said that the party has issued a whip to all its lawmakers to vote against Prime Minister Dahal’s motion of confidence.
The NC had given its vote of confidence to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal when he was leading the UML-Maoist Center government in January 2023. This resulted in the failure of the UML-Maoist Center government and the formation of a new NC-Maoist Center coalition.
