KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has registered the party for the upcoming House of Representatives and National Assembly elections.

Krishna Prasad Poudel, Chief Secretary of the NC’s Central Party Office, said on Sunday that the party had been registered at the Election Commission (EC). “We registered the Nepali Congress for the upcoming elections with the Election Commission on Sunday,” Poudel said.

It has been reported that the NC has registered the party with the provision that election tickets for both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly will bear the signature of Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Deuba has sidelined himself from active party duties after the Gen Z protest, assigning Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka as the Acting President.

According to a party source, the NC has informed the Commission that Deuba himself would sign the election tickets.

A meeting of the party’s Central Working Committee on Saturday had decided to participate in the elections.

The Election Commission had set Sunday as the final deadline for party registration for the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 25. For the House of Representatives elections slated for 21 Falgun, parties may submit applications for registration until November 26.
