NC picks 15 women, five men for 20 PR seats

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has finalized the party’s nominees for members of the House of Representatives under the proportional representation (PR) system.

A meeting of the Central Work Execution Committee held at the party’s central office in Lalitpur made the decision.

According to NC Spokesperson Devraj Chalise, the meeting picked 15 women and five men to represent the party under the PR system.

Although the party has finalized the names, they have not been made public yet. NC leaders say the Election Commission will publish the names after ascertaining that it meets the principle of inclusivity as required by the law.

NC won 18 seats under the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system in the House of Representatives elections held on March 5. Similarly, it has been allotted 20 seats based on 1,759,172 votes that it received under the PR system. This brought the party’s total tally in the new House of Representatives to 38.

NC, which had 88 seats in the dissolved House of Representatives, suffered a huge loss in the recent elections.
