KATHMANDU: Ramesh Lekhak, the Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, has expressed optimism about his party securing the post of President.
During an interaction with legal experts at the NC’s parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar on Friday, Lekhak said that as the largest party in parliament, it was natural for the NC to stake its claim for the post. “We are the largest force in parliament and in the seven provinces,” he said, adding: “Since the NC is the force that can be relied upon for the meaningful implementation of the constitution, it is only natural for us to make a claim for the post.”
Lekhak also argued that the NC’s claim is justified because it has more weighted votes than other parties.
Responding to the UML’s recent statement that parliament could be dissolved at any time, Lekhak said that a party that is pushing for the dissolution of parliament cannot protect the constitution.
