KATHMANDU: The Mahasamiti meeting of the Nepali Congress (NC) has approved a proposal to not form pre-election alliances with any parties.
The meeting on Thursday unanimously endorsed the Organizational Proposal presented by General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa. In his policy document, Thapa, among other things, proposed that the party formally decide not to enter into any pre-poll alliances in the future.
Although NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba had initially stated that any decision on forming electoral alliances would depend on time and situation, some Mahasamiti members commented on the proposal, stating that it was not the appropriate time to discuss electoral alliances as the election is still four months away.
The Mahasamiti is the highest policy-making body of the party.
The Mahasamiti meeting also unanimously approved three other proposals: the Policy proposal presented by Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka, the Political proposal presented by General Secretary Bishwa Prakas Harma, and the Audit Report presented by Accounts Committee Coordinator Shyam Ghimire.
These proposals will have to be approved by the party’s central working committee.
