NC lawmaker Sunil Sharma arrested

KATHMANDU: Medical entrepreneur and Nepali Congress lawmaker Sunil Sharma was arrested from Kathmandu on Thursday afternoon.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police arrested Sharma from his residence in Mandikhatar on charges of document falsification.

Ajaya Babu Shiwakoti, a central committee member of NC, has confirmed the arrest. “Sharma informed party leaders about his arrest,” Shiwakoti told Himal Press.

Sharma has been elected to the House of Representatives from the Morang-3 constituency.

In recent days, Sharma had been vocally advocating for the resignation of both the finance minister and the home minister in light of the ongoing investigation into a gold smuggling case.
