NC lawmaker Gurung suspended

KATHMANDU: Newly-elected Member of the House of Representatives, Tek Bahadur Gurung, has been suspended.

Issuing a notice on Tuesday, the Federal Parliament Secretariat said as a corruption case against Gurung is sub judice at the Special Court, he remains suspended until the court passes its final verdict.

Gurung was elected to the House of Representatives from Nepali Congress from Manang district. He took the oath of office and secrecy on Thursday.

A day after Gurung was sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday wrote a letter to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, notifying it about the case against Gurung sub judice at the Special Court.

CIAA has filed a case against Gurung and 15 others at the Special Court accusing his involvement in financial irregularities while leasing out the land of Kathmandu Fun Park when he was holding the office of the Ministry of Labor and Employment as a Minister of State. The constitutional anti-graft body has sought Rs 310 million in fines and compensation from the accused.
