KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Tek Bahadur Gurung has been found guilty in a corruption case by the Special Court.
The court was hearing a case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against Gurung and 13 others, accusing them of financial irregularities while leasing out land currently occupied by Kathmandu Fun Park in Bhrikuti Mandap.
Gurung was the Minister of State for Labor and Employment when the land was leased out.
Dipendra Nath Yogi, the spokesperson for the Special Court, confirmed that lawmaker Gurung has been convicted. “His sentencing is scheduled for March 9,” he added.
Out of the 14 persons charge-sheeted by the CIAA, the Special Court convicted nine, while five others have been acquitted.
Gurung, a Nepali Congress leader, was elected to the House of Representatives from Manang district in November last year. However, he was suspended by the Federal Parliament Secretariat on December 27 due to the corruption charges.
