KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has been elected to the House of Representatives from the Jhapa-1 constituency in the third attempt.
Sharma defeated his opponent Agni Kharel of CPN-UML by more than 14,000 votes. While Sharma polled 39,624 votes, Kharel received 25,349 votes.
The young NC leader was the common candidate of the ruling five-party coalition. He was defeated by Ram Karki of CPN (Maoist Center) in the 2017 election. Karki was the common candidate of the left coalition in the election.
He lost to UML’s Rabin Koirala in the 2013 Constituent Assembly (CA) election.
