NC firm on its demand for parliamentary probe into Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has maintained its stance that a parliamentary inquiry committee must be formed to probe the involvement of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane in a cooperative fraud case.

Speaking at an all-party meeting called by Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Monday, NC leaders have warned that the parliament cannot function if a parliamentary inquiry committee is not formed as demanded by their party.

NC leaders exited the meeting stating that the NC is firm on its stance that Lamichhane’s involvement in cooperative fraud should be thoroughly investigated.

“Money parked by common people in different cooperatives across the country has been misused. Sitting ministers have been linked to these frauds. That is why NC is adamant on forming a parliamentary inquiry committee,” NC Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak said. “We will see how the government presents itself in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.”

Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML Vice Chairperson Bishnu Paudel, RSP President Rabi Lamichhane, among other leaders, were present in the meeting.
