NC district presidents urge reconsideration of Koshi Province’s name

ITAHARI: Fourteen district presidents of the Nepali Congress (NC) in Koshi Province have requested the party leadership and the Koshi Province Assembly to reconsider the province’s name.

The district presidents made a joint appeal on Wednesday, stating that their attention has been drawn toward demands raised by the pro-identity groups. “We condemn the use of force to quell the protest, and also request the protesters to maintain restraint,” they said in a joint statement.

Stating that a large section of the society has protested the decision to name the province as ‘Koshi Province’ by the province assembly, the district presidents said the central leadership of the NC should hear the demands. “We have realized the need for a brave decision by the party’s central as well as provincial leadership in regard to the name of the province,” they added.

They also said both sides should solve the ongoing stalemate through talks.
