KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane in cooperative fraud.
NC has threatened to disrupt House proceedings if the government is not ready to investigate accusations against Lamichhane.
The main opposition called for the formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate Lamichhane’s involvement in cooperative fraud after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal defended Lamichhane on Tuesday. Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Dahal said he has received a briefing from Nepal Police that Lamichhane neither sat on the board of any cooperative nor has any outstanding loans in a cooperative institution.
However, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak reminded Dahal that a study conducted by Pokhara Municipality has shown Lamichhane’s involvement in cooperative irregularities. “We have seen documents signed by Lamichhane regarding his cooperative transactions. What more proof does the Prime Minister need to implicate him?” Lekhak questioned.
