KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress has decided to move the Supreme Court against the appointment of the Chief Minister in the Gandaki Province.
A meeting of the incumbent and former office-bearers of the party held on Monday morning decided to challenge the government formation process in the province in the apex court.
The meeting concluded that the ruling coalition staked the claim for government formation in an unconstitutional manner.
CPN-UML’s Khagaraj Adhikari was appointed as the Chief Minister of Gandaki Province on Sunday. The list of 31 assembly members, which the coalition submitted to the Province Chief, also includes signatures of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
Earlier, party leaders received a briefing from NC parliamentary party leader in the Gandaki Province Assembly, Surendra Raj Pandey, about the recent political developments in Gandaki.
Meanwhile, the meeting also decided that it won’t budge from its demand for the formation of a parliamentary panel to investigate the involvement of Rastriya Swatantra Party President and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, in cooperative fraud.
