MUSTANG: Preparations have begun for a ski competition in the Baragung Muktikshetra area of Mustang.
Organized by the Nepal Ski Association, the 5th National Ski Championship will be held in Muktinath on Saturday.
The Nepal Ski Association has been organizing the championship to promote skiing and adventure tourism since 2016. The first National Ski Championship was held in the Kyanjin Valley of Rasuwa. It has been held in Mustang since 2019.
The organizers have already built a ground loop for the skiing events.
According to Suraj Gurung, president of the Mustang Ski Association, training sessions began on Wednesday. Junior skiers received training on Thursday, while training for senior skiers is scheduled for Friday, he added.
A total of 14 male and 10 female skiers will participate in the championship. Some skiers from Mustang, including personnel from the Nepali Army, are also expected to participate in the event.
This championship will feature slalom and giant slalom events under the alpine skiing category. Winners will be awarded gold, silver, and bronze medals.
