Mukul Dhakal moves Election Commission against RSP decision

KATHMANDU: Dr. Mukul Dhakal, the suspended general secretary of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has challenged the party’s action against him at the Election Commission (EC).

In a letter on Sunday, Dr. Dhakal requested the EC not to update party decisions as per Section 51 of the Political Parties Act, 2016.

“I have not been given a reasonable opportunity to present my defense as per Sub-section (2) of Section 18 of the Political Parties Act. The Constitution of Nepal defines Nepal as a democratic country, and providing an opportunity for defense is a universal democratic value. Since the Political Parties Act also includes this provision, any action taken without giving an opportunity for defense is deemed unconstitutional,” he told the commission.

He has expressed objection to the RSP’s decision, stating that action was taken against him without providing an opportunity to defend himself.
