KATHMANDU: Vehicular traffic on the Narayangadh-Muglin Road will be closed for four hours daily from December 23 to facilitate the lowering of a cliff on the roadside by 60 meters to construct a bridge over the Tuin River.
Chief District Officers of Gorkha, Dhading and Chitwan and other officials of three districts met in Kurintar on Saturday and decided to close the road for vehicular traffic from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm every day for about three weeks.
Out of 19 bridges on this road, four came into operation four years ago. Tender works were initiated for the remaining 15 bridges simultaneously. Construction of some of these bridges has already been completed, and some are in the last leg of construction. Eight bridges are expected to be operational within two months, and four within a month. With Khahare Bridge expected to come into operation within six months, the bridge at Tuin Khola will be the only one still under construction.
Officials say the cliff was lowered by 25 meters last year. They plan to break the cliff by using rock splitter and hydraulic jackhammer.
