Most banks keep rates unchanged for Baishakh

KATHMANDU: Amid sluggish credit growth and a buildup of deposits in banks due to a slowdown in economic activities, most commercial banks have kept maximum interest rates on individual fixed deposits unchanged for Baisakh (mid-April to mid-May 2025).

Of the 20 commercial banks, 16 have kept their rates unchanged, while three have lowered their rates and one has raised its rate.

Everest Bank Ltd, which raised its interest rate by 0.61 percentage points, is offering the highest interest rate of 6.61% on individual fixed deposits, while Nepal Bank Ltd has the lowest interest rate of 5.15%.

Kumari Bank Ltd, Sanima Bank Ltd and Nepal Bank Ltd have lowered their interest rate for Baishkah.

Likewise, 11 banks have kept their interest rate on institutional fixed deposits unchanged for Baishakh. Similarly, eight have lowered their rates, while one has kept its rate unchanged.
