ITAHARI: A man killed his wife with a sharp weapon before killing himself in Belbari-1 of Morang on Wednesday night, according to the District Police Office, Morang.
Bam Bahadur Limbu (60) killed his wife Gita (45) using a sharp weapon at around 1:40 am on Wednesday and killed himself for fear of getting arrested, according to police.
DSP Ranjan Kumar Dahal, the spokesperson for the District Police Office, Morang, said Bam Bahadur Limbu was found unconscious with injuries in his throat. “He was rushed to Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar. But the doctors declared him dead at around 3:30 am,” Dahal added.
Police say preliminary showed Limbu attacked his wife with a sharp weapon during a domestic dispute, killing her on the spot. “He then killed self using the same weapon,” Dahal added.
The couple had been living in a rented room at a local Nirmala Rai’s house for the past four years.
“I came to know about the incident after hearing crying sounds in the middle of the night. Bam Bahadur killed his wife and then killed himself fearing arrest,” police quoted Nirmala as saying.
Their 8-year-old son, however, managed to escape the scene.
Police have recovered the weapon used in the crime.
DSP Dahal said further investigation was underway to determine the cause of the dispute between the couple. Preliminary findings suggest that it was the second marriage of both Bam Bahadur and Gita, he added.
