KATHMANDU: Monsoon-related disasters have so far claimed the lives of 28 people, with one person missing and 25 others injured.

Responding to queries raised by lawmakers in the meeting of the National Assembly on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on Friday, Minister for Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Dol Prasad Aryal, said 46 houses were destroyed and 36 houses were partially damaged due to monsoon-related disasters.

According to Minister Aryal, landslides have resulted in the deaths of 24 people and injuries to 19 people, while floods have claimed four lives, two others are injured and one is missing.

Four people have been injured due to heavy rainfall. Likewise, 19 lost their lives and 35 were injured in 93 incidents of lightning strikes. Likewise, a total of 171 livestock have died due to different disaster events.

Minister Aryal also said that a National Monsoon Preparedness and Response Plan 2024 has been prepared and implemented for the mitigation of disaster risks. He added that various sectors have been assigned institutional responsibilities to protect vulnerable areas by assessing the potential risks from monsoon-related disasters.
