KATHMANDU: Monsoon rain has reached the eastern and central parts of Nepal.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, the Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said the monsoon entered Nepal one day later this year.
“The monsoon has arrived in the Koshi Province, most parts of the Bagmati Province, and the eastern parts of Madhesh and Gandaki regions,” he said. “The monsoon is gradually progressing toward the western parts of the country.”
The monsoon rain will provide respite to people in the lower belt of the country who have been enduring temperatures in excess of 40 degrees Celsius. Farmers will also be happy as their summer crops are drying up in the field due to a long spell of drought.
Nepal receives around 80% of its annual rainfall during the monsoon, which generally withdraws in the last week of September.
