MMC ends six-match losing run, defeats TAC

KATHMANDU: Manang Marshyandi Club (MMC) put an end to its six-match losing streak by defeating Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) 1-0 in the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division League at Dasharath Stadium on Wednesday,

Koffi Timothée Koudo scored the only goal of the match in injury time of the second half. Koudo superbly controlled a long pass from Bijaya Shrestha and slotted the ball past the army goalkeeper.

A prolonged losing spell forced the MMC to fire its head coach Kiran Shrestha. It took to the field on Wednesday without a head coach. Nevertheless, the win allowed MMC to break the streak and return to winning ways.

Roshan Rana Magar had a chance to score for MMC in the first half of the match when the army goalkeeper fumbled the ball. But Magar missed the target. In the second half, Gilespi Jung Karki’s header for TAC hit the crossbar. Kofi had a chance to score in the 88th minute of the match, but he couldn’t beat the army goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

With this victory, MMC now has 18 points from 14 matches, with five wins and three draws. TAC has 20 points with five wins and as many draw from 14 games.

Church Boys defeats Friends Club

Church Boys United overturned a goal deficit to defeat Friends Club 2-1 in the first match of the day played at the Dasharath Stadium.

Friends took an early lead in the 14th minute when Ben Quansha headed Dona Thapa’s freekick past the Church Boys goalkeeper. However, in the second half, Anjan Bista and Ashish Chapagain scored to secure a comeback victory for the top-flight newcomers. Bista converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute, and Chapagain scored in injury time after experienced Laxman Ruchal failed to clear the ball inside the box.

Following this win, Church Boys has climbed to second place in the table with 24 points from 14 games. It is tied with table-toppers Jawalakhel Youth Club which is ahead on head to head. Meanwhile, Friends Club remains in the 13th position with 15 points from 14 games.
