KATHMANDU: Indian climber Anurag Maloo, who had been missing from Camp 4 of Mt Annapurna since Monday, has been found alive.
“Maloo has been rescued alive. He has been airlifted to Pokhara by a Prabhu Air helicopter at 10:30 am,” Thaneshwar Guragai, manager of the Seven Summit Trek,” told RSS news agency.
Maloo is receiving treatment at Manipal Hospital, Pokhara. According to family members, his condition is critical.
Maloo had gone missing while he was returning to the base camp after his unsuccessful summit attempt.
A couple of days ago, another Indian climber Baljit Kaur (27) was also rescued alive from Mt Annapurna Himal. She is out of danger.
Irish climber Noel Hanna died on Tuesday while returning from climbing Annapurna.
Mt Annapurna (8091m) is the 10th highest mountain in the world. Forty-five climbers from five expedition teams have received permission to climb the mountain.
It is the first 8,000-meter peak conquered by mankind. Mourice Herzon and Louis Lachenal of France were the first to climb the mountain in 1950.
