Mishra quits RPP, gives up active politics

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice Chairperson, Rabindra Mishra, has announced his resignation from all party responsibilities following his defeat in the House of Representatives election from the Kathmandu-1 constituency.

Issuing a statement on Saturday, Mishra said he had decided to step away from party politics after careful consideration, stating that the decision was not driven by frustration, disappointment or haste.

Mishra acknowledged that despite, what he described as, widespread public support for the restoration of the monarchy, the RPP had repeatedly failed to organize and capitalize on that sentiment. He said he also bears responsibility for the shortcomings in his capacity as the party’s senior vice chairperson.

“Without placing the nation above ideology and pursuing a new understanding and structural review centred on the country, it will not be possible to save and build the nation for future generations amid changing geopolitics and deteriorating internal conditions,” he said.

Mishra said he had resigned from all responsibilities within the party effective immediately and added that while stepping away from party politics for the time being, his positions on issues such as the restoration of the monarchy and good governance would remain unchanged.

He said he would continue to voice his views independently in a non-partisan capacity.
