
KATHMANDU: Bijaya Prasad Mishra has been elected President of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA).
He defeated Senior Advocate Raman Shrestha by more than 2,500 votes. According to the vote count, Mishra received 5,052 votes, while Shrestha secured 2,619.
Mishra was the joint candidate of two lawyers’ associations affiliated with the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML.
Likewise, Padam Prasad Limbu (Koshi), Ajay Shankar Jha (Madhesh), Tej Bahadur Rawal (Bagmati), Bhupendra Khanal (Gandaki), Krishna Prasad Pokhrel (Lumbini), Bibash Kumar Basnet (Karnali), and Siddha Raj Ojha (Sudurpaschim) have been elected as provincial vice presidents, while Saraswati Shrestha has been elected Vice President (Women).
Similarly, Kedar Prasad Koirala has been elected General Secretary, and Jagat Bahadur Karki as Treasurer.
Those elected as Executive Members include Kiran Nyaupane, Sharda Gurung, Daman Bahadur Chand, Baburam Aryal, Mukunda Adhikari and Madhav Mainali in Open Categorgy, Chiran Jivi Tilakyaani (Dalit), Suryakumar Yadav (Madhesi/Muslim Member-Outside Kathmandu Valley), Rinku Kumari Yadav (Madhesi/Muslim Open), Rajkumar Shrestha (Indigenous Nationalities Member-Outside Kathmandu Valley), Mangal Sundar Shilpakar (Indigenous Nationalities-Open), Indira Acharya (Female-Outside Kathmandu Valley), Ranjita Karki (Female-Open), Kiran Paudel (Outside Kathmandu Valley).
