KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has sacked Minister of State for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Purna Bahadur Tamang (Kancharam).
Tamang, who was elected to the House of Representatives from Ramechhap in the 2022 general election, was appointed to the position on August 2, 2024.
A source at the Prime Minister’s Secretariat told Himal Press that Tamang, who is considered close to Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba, was sacked on the NC’s recommendation.
“In a parliamentary system, the appointment and dismissal of ministers occur based on the recommendation of the respective party,” the member said. “He was sacked following the NC’s recommendation.”
Tamang had supported Nepal Electricity Authority’s then-Executive Director Kulman Ghising during a controversy over his removal, which had caused friction with Energy Minister Deepak Khadka.
NC had repeatedly urged Tamang to resign due to his stance in favor of Ghising.
