KATHMANDU: Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagdish Kharel, held separate meetings with Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli on Friday.

During the meeting held at Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj, Kharel, who is also a member of the Political Dialogue Committee formed by the government, requested the NC President to help create a conducive environment for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5.

Similarly, Kharel met Oli at his residence in Bhaktapur. During the meeting, Oli indicated that it would be difficult to participate in the polls unless a conducive environment is created.

Oli has been saying that the environment is not conducive to the elections and that elections are not possible. He has been calling for the reinstatement of the House of Representatives.

While the Nepali Congress has not officially called for parliament reinstatement, some NC lawmakers, together with UML lawmakers, have filed separate writ petitions at the Supreme Court calling for dissolution of the current government and reinstatement of parliament.
