KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies has recommended a minimum support price of wheat at Rs 3,351 per quintal. This price is a significant increase compared to last year’s price of Rs 3,165 per quintal.

Officials from the ministry have forwarded a proposal to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers for endorsement. The recommendation is based on the advice of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. “We made the proposal based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development,” said an official from the industry ministry.

In the budget speech for the fiscal year 2022/23, the government announced that it would fix the minimum support price of wheat, rice, corn, milk, and other farm products in the budget for the fiscal year 2022/23. The decision was made to provide some relief to farmers who have been struggling due to the pandemic and unfavorable weather conditions.

The increase in the minimum support price of wheat is expected to benefit farmers by providing them with a fair price for their crops. This ensures that farmers do not suffer losses due to low market prices and are incentivized to produce more crops. The government has also been providing subsidies for fertilizers and seeds.
