KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against 18 former officials of the Melamchi Water Supply Development at the Special Court.
According to CIAA Spokesperson Narahari Ghimire, charge sheets have been filed against three government secretaries – Dr. Sanjaya Sharma, Bhim Prasad Upadhyaya, and Gajendra Kumar Thakur, then executive directors Ghanashyam Bhattarai, Ram Chandra Devkota, and Surya Raj Kandel, and board members Rudra Singh Tamang, Chandra Bahadur Thapa, and Mukunda Prasad Poudel.
Likewise, a corruption case has also been filed against the board’s staffers Beg Nath Poudel, Kedar Prasad Aryal, and Bhoj Bikram Thapa, the consultant company Eptisa-Bets JV’s Shiva Kumar Sharma, and its deputy leader Shiva Kumar Sharma, and the construction company CMD di Ravena.
The constitutional anti-corruption body has sought to recover Rs 69.78 million each from former Secretary Sanjaya Sharma and board member Mukunda Prasad Poudel, Rs 41.13 million from former Secretary Bhim Prasad Upadhyaya, Rs 604.91 million from former Secretary Gajendra Kumar Thakur, Rs 715.83 million from former board member Chandra Bahadur Thapa, and Rs 110.91 million from former board member Rudra Singh Tamang.
Tamang is the incumbent director-general of the Department of Immigration.
Likewise, the CIAA has sought to recover Rs 227.51 million from former executive director Ghanashyam Bhattarai, Rs 323.56 million from former executive director Ram Chandra Devkota, and Rs 890.89 million from former executive director Surya Raj Kandel.
Similarly, the CIAA is seeking to recover Rs 323.56 million each from the board’s former under-secretary Mani Bhadra Neupane, former accounts officer Ram Chandra Neupane, former under-secretary Beg Nath Poudel, and former executive director (site office) Bhoj Bikram Thapa.
Likewise, Rs 447.37 million has been sought from former under-secretary Kedar Prasad Aryal, Rs 483.6 million from the consultant’s deputy team leader Shiva Kumar Sharma, Rs 875.88 million from the consultant company Eptisa-BETS JV, and Rs 651.45 million from the construction company CMD di Ravena.
