DHUNCHE: A team of specialist doctors has reached Gosainkunda (4,380m) to provide emergency medical treatment to the pilgrims visiting the sacred site.
Gosainkunda, located in the northern region of the Rasuwa district, hosts an important religious fair during the Janai Purnima festival which is being celebrated on August 31.
Under the joint auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Cooperatives, Bagmati Province Government, and the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA), a team of seven doctors has arrived at Gosainkunda. The team will attend to pilgrims who may experience high-altitude sickness or other health issues.
Govinda Basyal, CEO of HRA, said a group of seven physicians from the Mountain Medicine Society are now stationed at Gosainkunda. The team is led by Dr. Nishant Joshi who was previously deployed at HRA’s Pheriche Health Post in Solukhumbu.
This medical team will provide health services in the Gosainkunda region for a period of 10 days. “Additionally, the team will provide medical assistance to the pilgrims en route to Gosainkunda and conduct health check-ups from Monday to Thursday,” said Basyal.
The Association has been sending groups of doctors to this holy site since 1997.
HRA President Dambar Parajuli said that pilgrims will receive health treatment and medicine free of charge.
Every year, hundreds of pilgrims from both within the country and abroad trek to the pilgrimage site to pay their respects and partake in religious rituals.
