KATHMANDU: The mayor of Kalyanpur Municipality in Siraha, Ram Pukar Sah, has been arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 100,000.
A team from the Bardibas office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) arrested Sah with the bribe money on Wednesday.
According to a CIAA source, Sah was caught red-handed inside his office while receiving the amount. The source said Mayor Sah had demanded a 20% commission from a consumer committee for the release of payment for a drainage construction project worth Rs 2 million.
“When the committee expressed its inability to pay the amount, Sah refused to release the check. He insisted that the committee pay him at least Rs 100,000 in advance and pay the remaining amount after the consumer committee receives its payment,” the source said.
Further investigation is underway in the case,” according to the regional office of CIAA in Bardibas.
