Marshyangdi bus accident death toll rises to 27

KATHMANDU: The death toll in the Marshyangdi River bus accident has reached 27.

According to DSP Shailendra Thapa, the joint spokesperson for the Armed Police Force (APF), 26 bodies are in Tanahun while one is in Bharatpur Hospital.

The bus with Indian registration was coming to Kathmandu from Pokhara with 41 passengers on board. All of them belonged to the Indian state of Maharashtra, according to BBC Hindi. The bus also had two Indian staff.

The bus fell about 150 meters below the road from Aina Pahara cliff on the Anbukhaireni-Mugling section of the Prithvi Highway at 11:35 am on Friday, Thapa said.

Sixteen injured have been airlifted to Kathmandu by a Nepal Army helicopter, Thapa told Himal Press. “The injured are receiving treatment at TU Teaching Hospital,” he added.
