Maoist Center’s candidate elected unopposed in Putha Uttarganga

KATHMANDU: Jagat Gharti of CPN (Maoist Center) has been elected unopposed as the Ward Chairperson of Putha Uttarganga Rural Municiality-2 of Rukum East District.

Issuing a notice on Wednesday, the Office of the Chief Election Officer, Rukum East, said Jagat Gharti of Maoist Center was declared elected as per Section 5 of the Local Body Election Act, 2016, as there were no other candidates.

Gharti was elected unopposed after candidates of the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML withdrew their nominations. The Maoist Center’s candidate won the local body election in Putha Uttarganga-2 in 2022 securing 234 votes. Karna Bahadur Budha of NC had received 179 votes.

The Election Commission is holding local body by-elections on December 1 to fill 44 vacant positions in local government.
