KATHMANDU: The CPN (Maoist Center) has urged the government to make its position public on the implementation of the cooling-off period investigation report.
Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Maoist Center lawmaker Shakti Basnet said the government has yet to clarify its stance on the issue, even though it has already been three weeks since the report was submitted.
“What is the government’s position on this report? It should be made clear, and urgency should be shown in implementing it,” Basnet said.
The Parliamentary Special Investigation Committee, which was formed following allegations of errors in the Federal Civil Service Bill, 2023, presented its report to the House of Representatives on August 5.
The committee held State Affairs and Good Governance Committee Chairperson Ram Hari Khatiwada and Committee Secretary Suraj Kumar Dura responsible for the discrepancy in the cooling-off period provision.
“Instead of showing the revised draft report to the committee members for discussion and then presenting it to the House, an informal meeting was held among certain individuals. This indicates a lack of coordination on the part of the honourable chairperson,” the report wrote about Khatiwada.
Similarly, it said that since Secretary Dura attended the subcommittee and committee meetings from the outset and was also involved in drafting the report, it cannot be said that he fulfilled his responsibilities.
