Maoist Center, RSP, Unified Socialist decide to vote against Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN (Unified Socialist), Rastriya Swatantra Party, and CPN (Unified Socialist) have decided not to give a vote of confidence to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

A meeting of the top leaders of the three parties was held on Friday. Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, RSP President Rabi Lamichhane, and Unified Socialist Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal were present in the meeting.

Oli is seeking a vote of confidence from the lower house on Sunday. The CPN-UML Chairperson was appointed Prime Minister on Sunday. He is required to take a vote of confidence within 30 days of his appointment, undergoing a floor test on the eighth day of his appointment.

“We decided how to present ourselves in Parliament on Sunday,” Maoist Center Chief Whip in the House of Representatives, Hitraj Pandey, said. “All three parties have decided to vote against the Prime Minister’s motion of vote of confidence.”

Only these three parties voted in favor of Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s floor test in the lower house last week. All others voted against Dahal.

Nepali Congress, UML, Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP), Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, JSP Nepal, and Janamat Party, among others, have extended their support to Oli’s government.

Oli needs the support of 138 members in the 275-member lower house to pass the floor test.
