Maoist Center quits Madhesh govt

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center) has quit the Madhesh Province Government.

Two ministers representing the Maoist Center in the Madhesh Province Government – Bharat Kumar Sah and Yuvaraj Bhattarai – submitted their resignations to Chief Minister Saroj Kumar Yadav on Sunday.

CPN-UML is also making preparations to withdraw from the Madhesh Province government. Both parties are preparing to form a new government in the province.

The split of a faction of Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal (JSP Nepal), led by Vice Chairperson Ashok Kumar Rai, to form Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has triggered new political developments in the province.

Sah held the position of Minister for Forest and Environment, while Bhattarai was the Minister for Industry and Tourism in the Madhesh government.

CPN-UML is the largest party in the 107-member province assembly with 24 seats, while the Maoist Center has nine. Janamat Party, which is expected to join the new coalition, has 13 seats. Some province assembly members from JSP Nepal are expected to join the newly-formed JSP which has shown allegiance to the UML-Maoist Center coalition.
