KATHMANDU: Two leaders from the CPN (Maoist Center) have called for a referendum on the issue of secularism and the Hindu state in Nepal.
Maoist Center’s Politburo Member Ramkumar Sharma and Central Committee Member Indu Sharma made the demand during their meeting with Prime Minister and Maoist Center Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday.
Interestingly, it was the Maoist Center that initially advocated for a secular Nepal.
The two leaders submitted an 18-point memorandum, drawing the attention of Prime Minister Dahal toward the need to bring anti-corruption measures, endorse the citizenship bill, introduce a directly elected executive President and a fully proportionate parliament, and lowering interest rates and high duties on motor vehicles.
Furthermore, they have also drawn the attention of all the political parties represented in the House of Representatives toward their demands.
